Viewers who are looking for a horror-slasher flick that offers dumb fun while making you wince, odds are Bone Lake has grabbed your interest. A recent scary film from filmmaker Mercedes Bryce Morgan hit cinemas on Oct. 3 with an ridiculous concept and a provocative name to complement.

A Combination of Comedy and Terror

Given the title like Bone Lake and an introductory scene featuring characters sprinting butt naked through the wilderness—only to be hit with a hunting weapon in sensitive areas—it's safe to assume there's a lot of humor all through the film. Additionally, the film's ending, which depict the central pair exhausted and injured yet chuckling madly side by side, carry a feeling of macabre comedy.

One would have to find something to chuckle over, as well, if you went through what the character Diego and Sage experience in Bone Lake. A pair riddled with romantic issues from the start—poor dialogue, disappointing physical relations, an unequal share of economic duties, and more—their connection is put to the test when another duo, the character Will and the character Cin, gatecrash their love-filled retreat.

A Sinister Change

At first seeming to be a conflict of contrasts between the two pairs—Diego and Sage are awkward and blue-collar, whereas Will and Cin have a affluent, opulent way of life and appear to be being intimate on every surface possible—shifts to horror as the getaway unfolds. Will and Cin manipulate Sage and Diego's fears in their union. They spread lies and gossip about the protagonists, claiming to know about an cheating and further conflicts.

The doubts erupt in the most extreme way conceivable when Diego and Sage learn that Will and Cin are not simply here at Bone Lake by mistake: they are the owners and have been luring duos to the property in order to coax them to cheat on their partners. For what purpose? Since Will and Cin are in fact siblings. After their forbidden relationship was discovered by their parents and they were pulled away unwillingly, they chose to punish the world (including their relatives). Since the society condemned them simply for their desired relationship, then they'll fight back at the everyone. Unforeseen Bonding

Yet, what Will and Cin fail to consider is that Sage and Diego, regardless of their lack of communication with one another, do care for and cherish each other. It just took having a murderous couple try to split them apart and murder them to realize it. If that sounds grim, it isn't played that way. Bone Lake's tone is leaning toward comedy than actual fear.

The film ends with Sage and Diego working together to escape Will and Cin's killer motives. Interestingly is that while, at the outset of the movie, you perceive a deep abyss in the bond between Sage and Diego in comparison to Will and Cin, by the end, Bone Lake flips it on its head. Cin and Will separate to chase Sage and Diego, but Sage and Diego are communicating better by this point. They team up to kill the character Will with a power tool. They next turn on the character Cin, who dies horribly at the depths of Bone Lake's lake—but only after Diego takes back the wedding ring destined for Sage that the character Will had taken and gifted to the character Cin.

Aftereffects

In the aftermath of their two killings, drenched in blood and viscera, Diego and Sage sit together on the edge of a boat. Unexpectedly, this is the most intimate they've connected since the start of the film, given that all their relationship troubles have been revealed for each of them to see, and all they have left are their beaten and wounded selves. To reinforce their renewed intimacy and profound insight of one another, the character Diego leans over to slip the marriage symbol on Sage's digit and, when she turns to examine it in the sunlight, the couple start chuckling.

It's easy to understand the reason: At the time, Will proposed to Cin, it was a perfect, affectionate instant. When Diego does the same for the character Sage, they've only survived a horrific ordeal. Nonetheless, the character Diego's proposal to the character Sage is not based on falsehoods, simply the realization that they've come out of the most terrible experience of their existence and, despite everything, they still wish to spend the remainder of their days together.

Therefore I aimed to depict all of the times there together where it's this euphoria of 'what a relief' and 'are we receiving what we've longed for, but what on earth just happened?
