Patriots Equal Longest Winning Streak Since Tom Brady Era with Win Against New York Jets
First-year player TreVeyon Henderson has recorded five scores in the present year
The New England Patriots tied their longest winning run from the Brady period as they overcame AFC East rivals the Jets 27-14 in professional football
Rookie Henderson shone brightly with three touchdowns as the Patriots claimed an eight-game winning streak for the initial occasion since legendary quarterback Brady's last year with the franchise in 2019
Signal-caller Maye passed for 281 passing yards and a TD, completing 25 out of 34 attempts
The win increases the Patriots advantage at the summit of the AFC East as they moved to nine wins and two defeats, with the Jets bottom after slipping to two victories and eight defeats
The Jets had taken the lead at Foxborough with QB Fields rushing for a short rushing score to conclude the Jets' initial series
But the New England fought back in the second period as the rookie rushed for two seven-yard TDs before the ball carrier caught a pass from Drake Maye at the rear of the endzone halfway into the third period to push the score to 21 to 7
"That was a crucial moment for him stepping up, and it's been great for him to keep gaining experience," Maye said of the rookie. "He aims to be outstanding."
Fields threw to John Metchie in the latter part of the third quarter to close the gap for the Jets but Andy Borregales booted a two field goals in the fourth quarter as the Patriots closed out the victory
