President Gives Green Light to Sending State Militia into Windy City, while Judge Prevents Portland Troop Movement.
This past weekend, federal officials stated that the President has ordered the dispatch of the national guard to the Illinois city, while simultaneously a court official prevented his government from sending troops to Portland, Oregon.
White House Confirms Illinois City Troop Dispatch
A spokesperson for the executive branch confirmed that the president had authorized using the state of Illinois militia personnel, referencing what she called “continuing unrest and lawlessness” that local leaders have not quelled.
On the West Coast, federal judge Karin Immergut supported the state’s assertion that Trump deploying federalized guard forces to the Oregon metropolis would potentially worsen rather than ease protests.
“This judgment validates what Oregonians already know: fairness prevailed, and facts won out,” the state's chief executive stated following the legal injunction was issued. “There is no insurrection in the city. No threat to national security. No flames, no devices, no deaths due to public protests.”
Illinois Governor Labels Move Needless
The Democratic governor, JB Pritzker called the decision unneeded and “an orchestrated display – not a serious effort to protect public safety.”
Judicial Official Halts Portland Guard Movement
Donald Trump has faced an obstacle to his strategy of dispatching the military to municipalities with Democratic mayors he describes as disorderly, following a federal court prevented his administration’s attempt to dispatch the state militia to Portland.
The President had declared on 27 September that he would send forces to Portland, “authorizing Complete Power, if necessary”, overlooking pleas from municipal leaders and the Oregon's representatives. A coalition of seventeen city leaders in the area had resisted the forces dispatch.
